Special Needs Provision

Imagine and Move sessions for early years special needs groups differ from those delivered in mainstream settings. Firstly, they are generally shorter to cater for shorter attention spans. Secondly, instead of the story being read to the children at the beginning of the session, enlarged pictures from the book are placed around the space and spoken narrative is interwoven through the different movement sections. There is also a greater emphasis on the use of sensory props to help the children to integrate and respond to their surroundings. The same session is then repeated over subsequent weeks to build familiarity and consolidate learning.
